In Level 5/6 at Tinternvale Primary School, students further develop a sense of independence, as they explore and navigate the world around them. We encourage our students to have a growth mindset, choose to be risk-takers and set goals for themselves.
Leadership opportunities work side-by-side with our school values of Kindness, Honesty and Inclusion. Students have the opportunity to nominate themselves for a range of leadership roles which include school captain and vice captain, house captain and specialist captaincy roles. Level 5/6 students are given the opportunity to be a buddy to Prep and Year 1 students to guide them as they begin their schooling journey. This fosters a bond between students, providing meaningful responsibilities for our Level 5/6 students.
Students immerse themselves in the Friendology and Respectful Relationships programs. This assists them to develop problem-solving skills to make more conscious choices socially and to develop personal interests and passions. These programs align with our school philosophies of having a key focus on student wellbeing, which will assist them as they begin their journey into adolescence.
In Level 5/6, students also participate in a range of activities and programs as a whole level, which enables them to foster relationships outside the classroom and provides them with the opportunities to work with a range of peers. During Terms 1 and 2, students participate in an Interschool Sport competition with students from neighbouring schools. This fosters connections as they transition into secondary school. Later in the year, during Terms 3 and 4, students participate in 5/6 Sport which is designed as a tournament-style program, with a range of creative sports to engage and encourage teamwork, resilience and sportsmanship.
Each year, the 5/6 students attend a camp on an alternate schedule. One year they attend the CYC City Camp and the following year they attend the CYC Phillip Island camp. This further enhances their independence, social skills, resilience and teamwork.
