At Tinternvale Primary School, The Year 3/4 program is designed to ignite a love of learning while fostering essential skills in a supportive and engaging environment. We focus on developing students as independent learners, ensuring that each child feels confident and capable and can access the curriculum at their point of need.
Our literacy program integrates phonics, phonemic awareness, fluency, vocabulary and comprehension to ensure that every student develops the skills they need to become confident readers and writers. Our teachers create supportive and stimulating environments where students explore texts, participate in discussions and develop critical thinking skills.
Our numeracy program emphasises the importance of understanding mathematical concepts through real-world applications. Students explore and develop their skills in number and algebra, measurement, geometry, statistics and probability, using a variety of engaging activities that promote problem-solving and critical thinking. Our teachers utilise diverse resources and technology to make learning interactive and relevant, ensuring that each student develops confidence in their mathematical abilities.
Our inquiry-based learning program encourages students to ask questions and explore topics that engage them in learning. Each term, students complete an inquiry project that promotes critical thinking and creativity as they ask questions, conduct research and present their findings in meaningful ways.
Our wellbeing program combines the Friendology and Respectful Relationships curriculums to develop students' social and emotional learning. Students engage in activities that teach empathy, conflict resolution, emotional regulation and positive communication. This program helps students develop positive relationships, fosters a sense of belonging and equips them with the skills to navigate social interactions effectively.
Year 3/4 introduces students to the school camps program, with students alternating between two activities year to year. In even years, students travel to Sovereign Hill, Ballarat, for a late-night excursion. In odd years, students participate in a 3-day overnight trip to Camp ADANAC in Yarra Junction. These big trips are also supplemented with excursions and incursions during the year to suit the class curriculum.
The 3/4 sports program provides opportunities for students to engage in physical activity and teamwork with peers outside of their classroom. Students are introduced to the sports played in Years 5/6 Interschool Sport, as well as developing sportsmanship and teamwork skills.
