OUR PROGRAMS
Our comprehensive transition program ensures that the new Preps and their parents are familiar with Tinternvale Primary School. There are school tours, Parent Information sessions, Prep activity days and Transition days. A smooth transition to primary school is achieved by Preps attending school for 4 full days in the first month, a buddy system with the Level 4 students and a classroom program centred on providing sufficient developmental play opportunities. The Preps have enjoyed getting to know their buddies and making lots of new friends in the process. This has allowed them to settle into the routines of school and enjoy the opportunities to learn.
In a nurturing environment, emphasis is placed on the acquisition of Literacy and Numeracy skills through the implementation of the Early Years Literacy and Numeracy Programs. It is centred on incorporating discussions, independent and group work, written tasks, technology and creative thinking skills into the curriculum.
OUR VALUES
At the start of Prep, our school values of responsibility, respect and honesty are introduced through the ‘You Can Do It’ program. The Preps have developed their interpersonal skills by interacting with other students, teachers and other adults. This has involved being able to:
- follow school and classroom rules
- learn to play constructively and describe emotions when interacting
- develop friendships
- learn how to work together
- develop skills and behaviours to learn with others
- learn to share and care for equipment and resources
- respect the rights, feeling and efforts of others.
SPECIAL EVENTS
There have been a number of special events at our school such as Wacky Wednesday, Pyjama Day, Favourite Book Character, Father’s Day Breakfast, , Fire Education, and Grandparents’/fFriend’s Morning. There have been excursions such as The Botanical Gardens, Healesville Sanctuary, Fire Brigade and Wild Action
